In an effort to better service our growing number of clients in the western U.S., Safety Compliance Services is opening our first regional office in Phoenix, Arizona. Although we have provided training and consulting services to clients in the western area of the country for years through our original Syracuse, New York office, we have been limited in providing our rescue and safety supervisor/first responder services to many of our western U.S. clients due to logistical considerations. With our opening of an office in Phoenix, we believe we can greatly expand our reach in the western United States as well as being able to enhance our offerings, customer service and value to our existing client base in that part of the country. We are confident we have selected an excellent team to lead our Phoenix operations and believe all our clients will see increased value and service with this growth without sacrificing any of the expertise and customer service they have come to expect from us. Our Rescue Services Division is adding a second fully equipped Rescue Vehicle to accommodate the growth in our Standby Rescue services. With having been contracted to provide standby rescue service for 2 planned maintenance outages at coal burning power plants simultaneously this spring, it became necessary to add additional rescue equipment and a vehicle to contain and transport the equipment. Our Rescue Team is staffed adequately to provide for the simultaneous service, but an investment in equipment was necessary to ensure no reduction in the level of resources and service each facility expects from us was necessary to fulfill or simultaneous obligations.

Safety Compliance Services is pleased to announce we have added a new service for our clients. Due to the inaccuracy of published Noise Reduction Ratings (NRRs) relative to actual noise attenuation achieved by hearing protection device users, we have been advising client personnel of NIOSH study results (see chart below) and OSHA recommended de-rating of NRRs as part of our hearing conservation training for many years. The attenuation provided to wearers with improperly fitted plugs or to individuals with narrow, sharply bending or slit-shaped ear canals may be only a fraction of the labeled laboratory values. Recently, several companies have developed technologies that allow for real-world determination of the attenuation achieved by each individual user of hearing protection devices. After researching the available technology over several months last year, we have selected and acquired the FitCheck Hearing Protection Measurement System by Michael & Associates, Inc. to allow us to provide fit testing services for hearing protection devices as part of our hearing conservation training.

As part of our Standby Rescue Service for a New Jersey coal burning electric generating company, our team was asked to lead a practice rescue of a simulated worker incapacitated while working from a suspended scaffold while inside the facility boiler. The scenario placed the “victim” suspended by his lifeline after having fallen from a suspended scaffold approximately 80 feet above the boiler “Dance Floor”.

Our 2-man rescue team led the rescue evolution with trained Plant personnel providing supporting services in rope tending and patient packaging. As a side note, Safety Compliance Services training division provided the generating facility with their ongoing Confined Space Rescue training earlier in the year.
